[OOC:] Lost in Translation Virus
I’m highly amused over the fact that I have to write something like this for both of my boys for the “Lost in Translation Virus.” In either case, though, it should be said that I am going to remove all human languages from Kouichi’s verbal capacity. He will still be able to understand and write in the languages, but he will not be able to speak – at least, not traditionally.
For me to elaborate, I have to put this under a cut. It does involve a fair lot of spoilers, so please be prepared for that if you decide to click on the cut!
Anyway, as some of you may already know, Kouichi is not human by any stretch of the imagination. Kouichi’s physical human appearance is a result of a kinjustsu entitled “Tenpenka” – a forbidden art; it enables the user to reconfigure their cellular structure to take on any shape they desire. Kouichi, choosing to primarily to live in the shape called “human,” sticks to it (usually) – despite actually being an owl. The reason for his choice far-reaching and I am not willing to give out more than I probably should at this point! I will admit that he partially took it on for the ease of communication, but also due to the fact he was given a “human heart” by the first user of the Shinrabanshou. After all, wouldn’t you want a human body to match how you think?
Anyway, as you may have guessed, by taking away Kouichi’s human speech, I’ve left him with animal. Ergo, he’s only able to make what sounds an owl may make in his human vocal range. So, really, he’s going to opt to be mute for the duration for the virus because like Hell is he going to hoot for you all. However, you must be figuring why I made this in the first place.
Well, the fact of the matter is that owl communication isn’t all verbal. Much of animal “language” is nonverbal. So, as you may guess, he’s going to be restricted to using very owl-like body language. If your character is particularly good with animals or can read animals, please inform me. It would be useful to keep tabs on you!
Outside that, we can discuss what he’s saying – even though, chances are, he’ll just write in Japanese in order to communicate.
